Secluded Garden in West Roxbury
The owners of this house on a busy street in front of a bus stop dreamed of a backyard as an oasis for privacy. This space was an open canvas and had a shared driveway and a rental unit next door. The couple requested a place to entertain family and friends in a beautiful private garden for entertaining and relaxing. The design also incorporated a quiet place to read and fragrance everywhere. Together we designed a reading deck, an entertaining patio and a secluded sitting patio surrounded by fragrant and drought tolerant plants. Read the comments of this client in this testimonial.

The original tiny egress area was enlarged with a sitting deck and entertaining patio. Both areas are designed for extra seating on walls and extra wide steps for casual entertaining. The deck looks over an inviting entrance into the fragrant, "no mow" garden. The secluded patio at the far end of the garden was designed as a more intimate setting for a firepit or reading area. The seasonal plantings surrounding the structures have fragrance and also require little water after being established. The patio trees are Japanese Snowbell, Crabapple, and a rare white Eatern Redbud. In order to attain real privacy and noise reduction, a new fence was installed with accomodation for the existing large maple. A lattice structure was installed on the opposite side to screen guests from the shared driveway.

Perennial Garden in Needham
Busy professionals purchased this property with a vision for its future landscape. They requested their front driveway be transformed into a front yard garden with a pleasant place to bicycle, rollerblade, play basketball and sit. The existing driveway was widened to increase parking, edged with cobble to enhance it aesthetically, and a circle garden was designed to include grasses and drought tolerant perennials. The front stairs were wrapped around to allow for sitting and supervising the children. Foundation planting and ornamental trees were placed for vertical interest and seasonal color. Drought tolerant plant combinations allow this driveway garden to be low maintenance while also conserving water. This vantage point from the house brings the neighboring woodlands into view, allowing the residents to incorporate the forest into their own garden. The Japanese maple was transplanted from the rear of the house where overgrown shrubs shrouded its focal beauty. This natural granite terrace was built to accommodate up to 50 people for festive parties. Wall seating and in-grade lighting enhance the terrace with an intimate atmosphere.

Artist's Garden in Weston
This rock garden with an Asiatic flavor was inspired by the nearby wetland. The busy owner wanted her garden to be child friendly, drought tolerant and to reflect her artistic nature. Textural evergreens, bamboos, grasses and perennials surround the bowl planter which serves as the focal point and provides seasonal interest. Read the comments of this client in this testimonial.

This dry streambed was designed for children to run and play in as well as be low maintenance. Low plantings were designed to conserve water and preserve the natural beauty of the 200 year old historic foundation. The Japanese maple was incorporated into the flavor of this rock garden to unite the inside interior with the outside. Yellow Euphorbias were placed throughout the garden to weave the brilliant architectural color of the house into the colors of the garden.

This condo complex was over crowded with rhododendrons and azaleas. By transplanting half the plants around the corner we exposed more room for colorful annuals. A lawn carpet through a native woodland pathway replaced a barren unpleasant space. Dappled shade covered slopes are planted with a variety of pink rhododendrons, Drooping Leucothoe and violet Vinca groundcover for erosion control. A perennial combination of Russian sage, Endless Summer Hydrangea, and New England asters soften the terminus of a natural stone wall.
