Perennial Garden in Needham
Busy professionals purchased this property with a vision for its future landscape. They requested their front driveway be transformed into a front yard garden with a pleasant place to bicycle, rollerblade, play basketball and sit. The existing driveway was widened to increase parking, edged with cobble to enhance it aesthetically, and a circle garden was designed to include grasses and drought tolerant perennials. The front stairs were wrapped around to allow for sitting and supervising the children. Foundation planting and ornamental trees were placed for vertical interest and seasonal color. The Japanese maple was incorporated into the flavor of this rock garden to unite the inside interior with the outside. This condo complex was over crowded with rhododendrons and azaleas. By transplanting half the plants around the corner we exposed more room for colorful annuals.	A lawn carpet through a native woodland pathway replaced a barren unpleasant space.	Dappled shade covered slopes are planted with a variety of pink rhododendrons, Drooping Leucothoe and violet Vinca groundcover for erosion control.	A perennial combination of Russian sage, Endless Summer Hydrangea, and New England asters soften the terminus of a natural stone wall.
